Shattered Sun Neck Pieces

There are new neck pieces available upon reaching exalted reputation with The Shattered Sun. There are two that are good for priests, and their stats and abilities depend on whether you are Aldor or Scryer.

Shattered Sun Pendant of Restoration

Healing Neck Piece

Base Stats:
19 stamina
70 +heal
7 mp5

Aldor:
Proc that increases +heal by 220 for 10 seconds. It only has a chance to proc when your healing spell actually heals a target. If a target is at full health, there isn’t a chance of it proccing. It will proc off of ticks from Renew, etc. The proc has a 45 second internal cooldown.

Scryer:
Chance when healing a target to heal for an additional 650 health. The bonus isn’t affected by +heal, but can crit (for ~1k health). It only has a chance to proc when your healing spell actually heals a target. If a target is at full health, there isn’t a chance of it proccing. It will proc off of ticks from Renew, etc. The proc has a 45 second internal cooldown.

Summary:
The Aldor proc is a bit more useful than the Scryer, as the caster can have some control over its use. Overall, these neck pieces don’t seem to be geared toward priests. The utter lack of intellect and spirit will make most priests better off sticking with Teeth of Gruul, Brooch of Nature’s Mercy, Amulet of Flowing Life, etc. Even if you are looking for high +heal items, there are better out there.

Shattered Sun Pendant of Acumen

Caster DPS Neck Piece

Base Stats:
19 stamina
18 intellect
37 +dmg

Aldor:
Chance on spell cast of increasing +dmg by 120 for 10 seconds. It has a 45 second internal cooldown. It won’t proc off of DoT ticks, just the initial cast.

Scryer:
Chance on spell cast of shooting a lightning bolt at your target for about 350 damage. It won’t proc off of DoT ticks, just the initial cast. The damage of the arcane bolt does not scale with your +dmg, but it can crit (and appears to be affected by spell hit as well). This works out to increase you overall DPS by about 8.

Scryers, Please Note: The Scryer proc can trigger off of things other than spellcasting at the moment (tradeskills, eating and drinking, etc.). It has a 50k yard range, is not affected by “line of sight,” and will shoot an arcane bolt at whatever (hostile) mob you have targeted, regardless of prior damage to it, or whether or not you are in combat. Due to this current bug, you can accidentally pull mobs in a raid before others are ready, or can break crowd control on mobs. Use this item with caution! Be careful what you have targeted when you take actions. The bolt(s) will be shot at your target.

Summary:
Again, the Aldor version is better than the Scryer version for us. The big question is if this is better than Ritssyn’s Lost Pendant (meaning: is the proc worth the loss of 14 shadow damage). It is! Use the Scryer version with caution (per the note above), though it’s current bug will hopefully soon be hotfixed as a priest chain casting Mind Vision can repeatedly wipe raids with this (intentionally, or otherwise).

* Testing has indicated that the proc rates on all these is up around 50% (but with a 45 second internal cooldown).

  1. It should also be noted that the Aldor healing proc can also cause some unwanted side effects, although not as potentially damaging as the dps neck.

I have noticed, that since the proc can occur off of HoT ticks, such as Renew, it can cause you to cancel certian other actions, like drinking.

Example: Clearing trash, renews on multiple raid members, exit combat, start drinking, HoT ticks, procs neckpiece, you stand up, exiting drinking..

Not a big deal really, but with the changes to drinking revving up as you drink, and the rate with at least my guild clears trash this is a minor annoyance..

  2. […] Dwarf Priest has recently broken down the benefits to these neckpieces over at her blog, to make life easier for everybody who hadn’t put the thought into these neckpieces […]
